Mercy for sinners

The story of Jesus is truly good news for all people, especially those who feel unworthy or far from God. We're reminded of this through Matthew's calling - a tax collector, despised by his own people, yet chosen by Jesus. This powerful narrative shows us that no one is beyond redemption. Jesus seeks out the 'Matthews' of our world, inviting them to follow Him regardless of their past. We're challenged to recognize our own spiritual sickness and need for Christ, the Divine Physician. The message emphasizes that it's not our sacrifices or religious acts that God desires most, but our mercy towards others. This echoes Hosea 6:6, reminding us to prioritize compassion over self-righteousness. As we reflect on this, let's consider how we can extend Christ-like mercy to those around us, especially those society might deem unworthy.
